About the classes..

Improvers Guitar Class 7-8pm / Improvers Ukulele Class 8-9pm.

From Thursday 15th September 2022.

Both classes are mixed-level for beginner to intermediate players. They are for people who already play but wish to improve with a variety of new techniques, a good number of fantastic songs whilst having a whole lot of fun playing together with others!

The minimum requirement is that you can strum a few chords and change between them without hesitation. All players up to intermediate level will benefit from these courses. It is natural to have different levels of ability in classes like these and I've developed teaching techniques to take advantage of that fact for all participants.

My classes are way more economical than 1 to 1 tuition and they are designed to be more fun too!

Each week, we will focus on a classic song and use it as a vehicle to learn new technical or musical learning points.

By the end of the 10 week course you will be able to:

  • apply a range of right-hand strumming/picking techniques
  • play more chords
  • add hammer-ons and pull-offs to your chords
  • play 'twiddles' and impressive fill-in lines
  • play with better rhythm
  • play with good general posture and technique, losing any bad habits
  • play with more confidence
  • jam confidently with others (including a little bit 'by ear')
  • apply everything you have learned to any song you want to learn/play in the future

I have been using this group class format for 10 years now. In that time, I've taught hundreds of people how to move forward in guitar or ukulele whilst having a great deal of fun and discovering the true meaning of music - jamming with others!

The courses are designed to be easy-going and there is no individual performing! I use plenty of pair-work to practise learning points and whole class playing to consolidate learning points. And, there's always plenty of group playing for fun!

The courses are 10 weeks long. Weeks 5 and 10 are 'review' weeks where we practise the songs and techniques we've learned so far and enjoy some general playing together.

Each session is based around a new song, with the previous week's song reviewed at the very beginning of the lesson. The songs are simply there for us to enjoy playing and to use to learn new techniques. I teach skills, so everything you learn can be applied to any song in the future!

How Do I Join?

Simply contact me here to reserve a place and I will put your name on the class list.

Payment is to be made at the beginning of the first session in cash/cheque or in advance of the first session by bank transfer (details at the top of the page). Because of room-hire costs, payment must be made during or before the first session.

These courses are aimed at adult learners, you must be 18 years of age or over.

There are limited places - and for now - these courses are a one-off!

Refund Policy And Absences

If after the first session you decide the course is not for you, you can claim a refund before the 2nd session. This refund will be the full course fee minus the first session fee (£9.50). All refunds will by paid by cheque. Refunds can not be given after the 2nd session.

When you pay for a course, you are paying for 'a seat' on the course, so there are no refunds for absences. However, it is normal for participants to miss a week or two, and the courses are priced accordingly. If you do miss any sessions, you can email me and I will always provide material for you to catch up.

All correspondence regarding these courses will be by email (please check your spam folder).
