This is my own technique - I honestly can't remember where I got it from - it's something I've done for 30 odd years on guitar, ukulele and banjo. It's a technique that I've really developed on the banjo in recent years and I incorporate it into much of my playing. It's caused quite a stir amongst some players - I've even had banjoists in America contact me wanting to learn how to do it. It's a great technique to learn - and if you do it fast, people think 'what are they doing??'..
I've done a great deal of experimenting with nylon strings on banjo in the past few years. I've come to the conclusion that nylon guitar strings work better for me than the nylon banjo strings on the market. Here's a lesson on exactly how I use guitar strings and the very few adjustments I make to the banjo to accomodate them.
